The GFGD team has been listening to your feedback and working hard to improve things to your satisfaction. Read on to learn of some improved features for CrowdCards, Practice Partners, Translators, Coaches and Students.
Crowdcards
May
- Staging Server: Remember how CrowdStrike took down half the world's computers? We took note - adding a staging server means we have extra checks in place before we launch new features. Hopefully this means less bugs and crashes for you.
- Uploading Audio Bugs: Some users were occasionally encountering problems when uploading audio for a card - fixed.
- Card recommendations: If you make a clone of a deck, and the original author later updates their deck, those changes will now be presented to you as recommended updates for your own deck.
- An option to "Install app" on phones has been added to the side menu
- Bug: After reviewing a flashcard, the next card would temporarily show content from the previous card; fixed.
July
- Keyboard shortcuts: Laptop users can now type 1,2 or 3 during a review session to more quickly move to the next card.
- All flashcards will now ask you a phrase in both directions? Learning English from Spanish? You will be asked 'How do you say 'Hola' in English?' and 'What does 'Hello' mean?'
- Access to advanced decks: Are you at Stage 3 but want to start studying higher level vocabulary - now you can! Click on 'Personal Study', select 'Vocabulary' and click 'Show advanced decks'
Practice Partners and Teachers
May
- PPs can now still see the names and email addresses of students from past bookings, not just upcoming bookings.
- Reminder emails of an upcoming booking now include the date and time of the booking
- PPs who missed a booking and have not been active on our platform for over a month now have their availabilities wiped and are sent an email to ask if they are still active.
July
- Practice Partners no longer need to be native speakers, advanced speakers can also be Practice Partners. This allows us to register Native Spanish speakers qualified in English teaching to be available to students.
Translators
May
- We have introduced a glossary; key terms (like "Practice Partner") need to be translated first in the glossary. GFGD will detect when these terms appear in other translatable material and provide clues from the glossary to help ensure consistency to how these terms are translated across the project.
- AI will attempt a draft translation of all Grammars
- AI will attempt a draft translation of all Grammar Quiz Questions
June
- Bug: A bug was preventing translators from saving translation submissions; fixed.
Students
May
- Grammar Quiz: If a student provides an answer that does not match the official answer, an AI will immediately evaluate whether the provided answer is also acceptable. If it is not acceptable, an informative explanation in the student's native language will be provided. (See video)
July
- Chatbot: The chatbots have been made more conversational - they talk less and listen more!
Coaches
June
- Can-do Bug: If a coach updated a student's can-do scores, it was resulting in a crash; fixed.
