With eight of our team members spending time in bed and one member spending a week in hospital, January was a rough month for our development team thanks to Covid. But coming out the other side we’re raring to go!

Perhaps the most exciting development this month are our plans to add additional modes of testing. Currently, GFGD infers your language competence solely from your performance in the Grammar quizzes. But we all know that language fluency is far broader than mere grammatical knowledge.

This month we begin work on two new features that will help us evaluate two more dimensions of your language – Pronunciation and Vocabulary knowledge. A more well rounded perspective will enable GFGD to better advise your language learning.

Pronunciation

To measure pronunciation, GFGD will give you phrases to record yourself saying and give you actionable feedback regarding what aspects of your pronunciation are presenting the greatest obstacles to your comprehensibility by native speakers.

Vocabulary

To measure vocabulary depth, we begin work on a new SRS flash-card app that will both help you memorize vocabulary in the most scientifically effective method known to humanity, but also help GFGD track your vocabulary depth. We’ll be rolling out a stand-alone flash-card app that will not only let you add your own words, but also through the magic of A.I. find similar words and terms that have been publicly shared by other users.
